Very interesting...

New York... Day Four

Our last day in New Work was perfect. Well... it was a little cold while we were at the Today Show but other than that it was wonderful! We got up semi-early and went to the Today Show. Saw Joan and Melissa Rivers, Al Roker, and had our picture taken with Ann Curry. We had free (thanks to a gift card) Starbucks that warmed us up after standing outside in the cold. We went to Bloomingdale's and tried on $300 hats (we didn't know they were $300 at the time). We had a DELICIOUS lunch at Serendipity and laughed at the crazy lady who works there. We even stopped and bought cupcakes at a wonderful local bakery on the way back to Emily's apartment. Our cab ride back to the airport wasn't filled with a cab driver saying the "F" word over and over again. I did spill an entire Coke on the floor in the food court at the airport, but that didn't even matter, the day was still perfect. Thank you, Julie and Katie, for being such great friends! Thank you Emily, for being such a wonderful hostest! I think our trip ended with the concesus that, even though we had a wonderful time, our next trip will be planned during the summer!

Nerd Alert...

That should really read, "I Love Public radio" but it looks cuter with the NPR logo. Blake will get on to me if I don't state that not all the shows on NPR are actually NPR shows, but we'll leave it at "I love NPR" for this post.

I'm a recent convert, but I still really love it. I'd never heard of National Public Radio before I met Blake and wasn't even remotely interested in it until he started working at KACU, the public radio station in Abilene. I liked tuning in on the weekends and hearing his voice every once in a while. It was soothing.

Now, I listen all the time. I listen in the car on the way to work and on the way home. Blake's alarm goes off with it playing every morning, too. Blake is the one who really loves it though. He listens to the same episodes of "A Prairie Home Companion" over and over and over. Seriously. When I'm watching TV at night he can usually be found in front of the iMac listening to podcasts of old shows.

What I'm trying to say is that I really do love NPR and think you should too. If you haven't ever listened before, give it a whirl. You can find your local station here.

I like to tan, too. Recently when I go to the tanning bed (it's not all that often) I listen to NPR while I'm in the bed. It's usually on some pop station (that I love, too) but I always change it to WPLN. I'm sure the person that uses the bed after me is probably annoyed when they turn on the radio and hear "talk radio" on the air. (FYI. NPR is not talk radio and Blake gets semi-flustered when people call it that. I say semi-flustered because he doesn't ever get mad about anything. Seriously. It always makes me mad that he doesn't get mad.) Moving on.

Poor Maverick...

Poor Mavy had a run in with a very unfriendly creature this morning. Sometime between going to be last night and about 6:30 this morning Maverick was bitten or stung by something that his skinny little body didn't like. He was running around like crazy rubbing his face on everything that he could and I just thought he was being hyper (we were out of town all weekend). Then Blake took him to go run and noticed his face beginning to swell. This is what he looked like compared to what he normally looks like.Blake thought he might have poison ivy (Blake's parents took him hiking this weekend) but our trusty vet, Blake Malone, didn't think that's what it was. Blake immediately took Maverick out to Bellvue to visit the good Dr. Malone. Blake gave Mav a steriod shot and told Blake to stop and pick up some Benadryl for Mav, too. Blake Malone took good care of Maverick, as he always does.

I, on the other hand, was a mess this morning... crying and worrying about Maverick like he would never recover. He, of course, is recovering just fine. He got to go to work with Blake today as a result of his accident. Thank goodness WPLN is a dog friendly environment. Here's to a healthy puppy.

New York... The rainy, nasty day.

Day 3 wasn’t the most pleasant day, weather wise, but we still had fun. We got up early enough not to miss breakfast and headed to Penelope’s, a quaint little restaurant that Emily found by searing the internet. It was delicious and dry. After our yummy breakfast we headed over to Macy’s where they were having their “flower show.” The entire ground level floor was covered in live blossoms. It was beautiful and smelled so sweet. We shopped a little bit and then we (Katie and I) decided that we wanted some Garrett’s Popcorn for lunch. I knew there was a store on 5th Avenue, so I busted out my handy dandy iPhone and looked up the address using the built in Maps app. We walked several (long and short) blocks in the rain only to find the store that I had looked up was closed. I then got on the Garrett’s website and found that the one store left in NYC was actually in the area we had just walked from. So we walked back all those long and short blocks to purchase our beloved popcorn and it was worth it. While at Garrett’s we decided that we were all okay just going back to Emily’s place and chilling for the afternoon. We watched TV for the remainder of the day and ordered Chinese food for dinner. We even watched “Serendipity” the movie and then ate lunch there the next day but… that is a story for another post!

If you guessed any of the above, you are wrong! Julie, Katie, Emily and myself were all on national television yesterday morning on the Today Show. We spent the weekend with Emily in NYC (more pictures to come later). We got up and headed down to the Today Show on our last day because Rascal Flatts was performing. They performed inside so we only got to see them on the monitors, but it was worth standing in the cold to get to see all the TS people, including Joan and Melissa Rivers. We even got our picture taken with Ann Curry. She was so sweet. She walked over in our direction, we asked her to take a picture with us and she said yes. She actually said, "You girls look like fun." Katie so cleverly replied, "You're right, we ARE!!" Needless to say, our trip was made perfect by our exeperience at the Today Show. Oh the Places You Will Go…

I have been one busy little bee for the past couple of weeks and it’s going to continue until the last week in May. That’s right, I only have one free weekend from now until the end of May. I’m not complaining. I like being busy and all of my weekend activities are going to be loads of fun. Here’s a break down. Last weekend I flew to Texas. We had a wedding shower for Channing (younger sister), attended a 50^th anniversary party for my mom’s cousin, threw a surprise party for my parent’s 40^th anniversary, saw Bevin and Channing’s new houses/apartments and cooked lunch for my family for my mom’s birthday (which was Sunday). Pictures from last weekend will follow this post later tonight.

See what I mean? I also have to fit work and school in there somewhere. I think I’ll manage. I’ve done it thus far. As far as grad school goes, I’m ready for it to be over. As Glenda so gracefully stated this weekend, “But you just started!” Yes I just started, but I’m still ready for it to be over. Thank goodness it’s only a year program. It’s not hard or that time consuming I just have a hard time allowing myself to think about anything but school. No matter what I’m doing I’m thinking about what school work I have that needs to be done. I guess that’s why I normally finish my projects early. I know that’s not a bad thing… just a little obsessive. Anyway, I don’t think I could have lasted through a two year program. Oh well. This time next week you’ll be seeing pictures of my New York trip. I know you can’t wait!!
